ArtificialReef.com is a watchdog organization chartered to promote responsible artificial reef use.  We offer our Habitat Guard™ certification for Artificial Reefs which means very simply that an artificial reef is built and deployed conforming to these minimum standards.
  • Materials used will last at least as long as the biology it is intended to support.
  • The artificial reef has been engineered or demonstrated to remain stable to the standards of a 50 year storm event or are suitably anchored to achieve this standard.
  • Materials used do not contain known toxins.
  • Deployment of material is on a legally permitted site and/or approved by legally responsible caretakers..

We also promote the use of designed artificial reefs and aim to promote fair trade practices, exchanges of idea, and linkages to the scientific and reef manager community with designed artificial reef companies.

Designed Artificial Reefs are structures SPECIFICALLY designed to achieve specific goals for use as artificial reefs.  This site is dedicated to that specific subset of artificial reef technology.

We offer a FREE  Google Earth KMZ File showing all Habitat Guard™ certified designed artificial reef projects by categories including links to site characteristics, project descriptions, construction and monitoring photos, news articles, scientific studies and other important information about the chosen projects.

To have your site certified and added, please send relevant information to artificialreef@gmail.com.
